Pee on It!
Hey!
So you're wondering about peeing on it....so here goes lol
Even though I have a mosquito net, somehow, whenever I hop into it, a mosquito gets in. I have so many mosquito bites its a miracle that my ass hasnt gotten malaria yet. Thank god the medicine is working. So i tell Pamkin to tell my mom to send some anti itch stuff cuz the 1% hydrocortizone cream the PC gave me doesnt help me at all. Im just crazy itchy! So pamkin says if I pee on my bug bites that the ammonia will take away the itch....
Im clearly not gonna do that lol. I already smell enough as it is ( I swear my sweat smells different here) so i shouldnt add on to the funkiness.
Site Announcement! I got placed here in Rosso! Lol so i basically wont have to move out of the city for my two years of service. I do plan on working with other volunteers so I will have time for in country travel etc. I met my counterpart Huewa We and she is so very nice. My site mate that has already been here a year is really nice too. He's been very helpful and is going to help me find a place to stay around Rosso in case I decide not to stay with my current host family. It all depends on how much they decide to charge me for rent every month.
My new address...forget about the one I gave out, is this:
Charlotte Lynn Libby, PCT (that will change to PCV in-shallah at the end of Aug)
Corps de la Paix
BP 40
Rosso, Mauritania
West Africa
send letters, love letters, packages, post cards, pictures, yourself, i dont care...lol to that address.
Ive heard that some friends and family are already sending packages and letters so im really excited. They did a mail run the other day and all my classmates got letters except for me so I was depressed lol but ive gotten emails so im happy.
My pictures are up on facebook. I know not everyone has facebook so in time I will make another website with photos. or you can just suck it up and sign up for a facebook account just to see my pictures lol.
My other site mates are really nice. Justin and Meredith are a married couple that are my site mates and this guy named Brandon who will be a teacher at one of the schools. Ill be working at the Girls Mentoring Center. Jaime, Megan, and Eric are in small villages that arent too far away as well.
Ramadan is right around the corner which means.....
send charlotte a package now of things she can do to occupy herself during the month of sept. Mauritania pretty much is a dead zone. I think im going to participate in the fasting everyday. (ill still drink water) but ill break fast with a family at the end of the day. I figure, ive lost weight already, and im always hungry, so ill go ahead and participate. I think it will be interesting.
but yes! send me anything. books, (i have narnia here, almost finished with all of them, and the PC volunteers left behind all the harry potters so im gonna start those too...but send me any books i love to read) cards, handheld games, crosswords, word finds, coloring books, lol anything to occupy my time.
i keep telling everyone to send me drink mixes. crystal light lemonade and pink lemonade, gatorade orange or gatorade lemon, anything citrus pretty much. water gets old after a while.
and snacks. whatever you think i will like.
im thinking about maybe asking my mom for a tropic screen. that might help with the mosquito bites, but they are expensive, so i think maybe not. but if anyone comes across a cheap priced tropic screen, let me know.
i also need work out clothes. ive been going on my morning walks/jogs in my tinkerbell pajama capris lol. so i guess i could use a good pair of cotton capri work out pants or yoga pants. im gonna say im a medium now, lol but anything thats drawstring will do since the weight seems to be comin off.
i have been told that packages take 2-3 weeks and the current pc volunteers have had no problems with theft so no worries k?
This week ill be here in Rosso with my site mates hangin out and finding a place to live. My host family keeps calling my cell phone. It's really cute. My host mom can't wait til i get back on the 31st. I walked to visit her the other day cuz she called me and said she missed me so I went to visit.
Well, ill write more later.
My phone number here is 011 222 420 3989 for anyone who wants to buy a phone card and call me. its free for me! lol so call all you want.
I love you all and I will write more later.
Love
Benina
PS. I dont think I ever told you all that my host family named me Benina, after my host grandmother. Its catchy. I promised my host mom Id name my first daughter Benina lol... either that or Zeyna, which means beautiful in Hassaniya. The little kids run around yelling Zeyna Benina Zeyna Benina! So cute... and wanna hear one last funny thing? The kids around here are "porky piggin it" lol...my site mate brandon told me that the other day and i was like what does that mean? and he was like porky pig wears a shirt but no pants... which is clearly what every mauritanian boy does. ive seen more mauritanian boobs and penis's (is there a plural for that? lol) to last me a lifetime.

Upper lip sweat
It is hot as monkey balls today. I just checked weather.com and it says its 88 degrees in Nouakchott (which is about 2 hours from where im at right now) but I swear it feels like its over 100. Beads of sweat are just dripping from my head and I've got a lot of "uppa lip" sweat goin on.
Guess what I had today? We found a "toubab store" which is like the white people's store....and I shared a snickers with my friend summer. Wanna know what else? We also had a 7up. It was amazing. The 7up didn't taste quite like it does in the US, but it was still great.
Last night summer and I had a sleep over in her tent, the electricity was out at the center and they didnt put up a line so I could hang up my mosquito net so i just slept in her net, and somehow a mosquito got in, i swear im a magnet, but anyway, it made a buffet of my right elbow. I found it in the morning when I woke up and I destroyed it. Karma's a bitch isn't it mr mosquito.
Anyway, despite being extremely hot and itchy...today has been productive. Got up at around 7. SHOWERED! haha and then we've just been in training sessions all day.
Tomororw we find out our permanent sites!!!!! I also have a language evaluation tomorrow so I definitely need to go over my notes.
I will be posting pictures on facebook soon. And i dont know if I can post pictures on here, but if not I'll set up a separate website for those who don't have facebook.
Happy Sunday. Saw there's a tropical storm headed for NC so I hope all those in Va Beach are okay and safe. Love you all

My first post...one month down :)
Hey Everyone!
Sooo...i survived a month in Mauritania. I've pretty much been sick since I got here, but I am still pushing through. Mauritania is beautiful. I am currently in Rosso for my pre-service training. I am staying with a host family and they are absolutely wonderful. My host mother's name is Muena. She doesn't speak any English, just Hassaniya, which is the local language that I am learning. It is 75% arabic so once I swear in I plan on hiring an Arabic tutor to learn the difference. My host father's name is Sidi, he received his degree in the US at the Unversity of Arizona back in the 80s so his English is still pretty good. I have two sisters, Ramla and Binta. Ramla is 21 and Binta is 15.
Funny story of what happened to me the other night....
So its hot here. Duh, desert. I took a shower before I went to sleep and I'm enjoying the cold water, when I look up and see freakin GODZILLA. The biggest lizard I have ever seen in my life! Kimodo dragon style. So i scream, I dont even turn off the water, grab my towel and run out to my family and yell "Haayva! Haayva! Il Kebiina!" which means I'm scared! The bathroom! so my Dad goes in and he starts laughing. So he takes Yotox, which is the insecticide here (mind you i have no idea how im alive today. They spray that crap like its air freshener) and sprays the crap out of the lizard. Then he takes the lizard with a broom and brings it outside.
So now my family jokes me all the time because I am scared of lizards. I'm pretty much scared of everything that crawls, anyone who knows me knows that :) and the bugs here are BEASTS. Cockroaches, flies (millions of them), mosquitos, beetles, locusts, ants, you name it, they have it.
Also, my neighbor bought a cow. And i feel bad for it, but I can't wait til they kill it bc its so LOUD. Like it's miserable bc its tied to a post and it just moo's all night long.
Anyway, all is well so far. Aside from being sick, I have really been hangin in there and enjoying the culture. Everyone is so nice.
I had my evaluation a few days ago and I received a 96 out of 100. They said I need to talk more...who would of thought right? Haha.
Anyway, I love and miss you all and I pray that all is well. Right now I am at the PC center and I find out my permanent site on Monday. I will write more once I find out where I am going for site visit!!!
Love always,
Charlotte
